Free ISP? But there's no such thing as a free lunch is there?
Well, no there isn't. The free ISP model was pioneered in the UK by ISP's like Freeserve and ConnectFree. These ISP's pioneered delivering Free ISP services such as POP3 email, webmail, Free hosting and so on. Obviously, any business needs to generate revenue to exist, so how could this business model actually work? Free ISP's, like 1 2 Free ISP make no direct charge to the customer. Instead, the customer uses an 0845 or an 0844 dial up number to connect to the internet. 
That 0845 or 0844 dialup number is provided by a Telco who will charge that to the Customer at the prevailing locall rate. The Telco then provides a proportion of the revenue generated by use of a Free ISP s dialup number to the ISP which will then pay for the various Internet Access services that the customer uses.
